If a tree falls in the woods and you don’t know the species than it might have been a shrub.

If you can’t categorize something it doesn’t exist. If a tree falls in the woods and you don’t know the species than it might have been a shrub. Assuming that was the case there was no tree to be heard. Shrubs really aren’t trees. An orange is an orange not an apple. Without categories and distinction our world would collapse.  Continue Reading →

10 Beautiful Buildings Inspired by Famous Books

by .

Truly wonderful books have a habit of growing and changing years after they’ve been written, worming themselves into places you might not expect — our decisions, our aesthetic and cultural sense, and even, with the right kind of care, our physical world. Case in point: Orhan Pamuk’s Museum of Innocence, which opened in Istanbul last weekend, is an extensive museum (reportedly, he spent almost all of his 1.5 million Nobel Prize dollars on it) devoted to expanding on and complementing his recent novel, The Museum of Innocence. Since we can’t make it to Turkey to experience the place for ourselves, we’ve collected a few other amazing buildings born from books — whether inspired by particular novels, stories, or a writer’s entire oeuvre — to tide us over. Click through to see our gallery of real-life architecture inspired by literature from all over the world, and let us know if we’ve missed your favorite literary tribute in the comments.

Have you ever felt the feeling?

A strange sequence of events… or rather thoughts…

I saw a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. We went to Vibe Cafe and as we sat there something strange happened.

First this girl walks in and I had the strangest feeling that I had met her before. I had known her. I must have known her. It was an unsettling feeling, seeing that it was as clear as day that I had met her and I didn’t know who she was. I considered the fact that she was on TV, but I don’t think that was the truth. As clear as day I know it in my heart that we have exchanged a look before. She looked back at least three times.

This is how it should be

Let nature take the lead. Or at least thats how I see it all. It’s so important.

Ladies & Gents, I present “The Fabulous Life” – An Introduction…

2/2011

THE BEGINNING TO THE END

Everyone has a PAST and a FUTURE. That was a realization I came across in 2010….that and no one’s perfect. Wow, what a concept!

Okay so if we aren’t perfect, what are we? We are building blocks of our imperfections made up of trial and errors sprinkled with our will to survive. I read recently that the only reason we are alive in this day and age is because our souls have decided to be here. That our souls, those alive in 2011 actually find it exciting and want to know what will happen next. Whether that is true or not, I can tell you that I concur. Continue Reading →

The Paralyzing Effect of the Urge to Create

The poor bastards who have an aching to create something, anything evenly remotely considered art, are truly committing to a life of restlessness and uncertainty. Some may say you take your first step into the coffin the day you settle and your desires and ambitions dry up, but frankly I think that is utter bullshit. Continue Reading →

Moon Dust

I sat under you tonight. I sat in the blue dip that stretched all the way to earth. I reached up to hold you, but my arms weren’t quite long enough to touch.

My niece thinks there are two of you. One at her house and one at mine. The moon is big at mine tonight she says, you must come over and see. Continue Reading →

Are You Weird Because You Don’t Like The Godfather?

We love watching films. We love taking out the time and experiencing a reality that we haven’t experienced before. Now the key to creating that reality obviously is to ground it in something that we have experienced before. The everyday speech patterns, occurrences, and blunders make a film beautiful. Heroism and cowardice exist in everyday life and it is these acts magnified that make the spectacle. Now the question we must ask ourselves is where does our interest lie. Why do we watch films? The answer should be different for everyone that ventures into that question, barring the obvious facts of attraction. Continue Reading →

Luminaris

An amazing stop motion short film. The quality of it alone will leave you in awe. This is what we call filmmaking, right? Yes.

Steel Toes a Film by David Gow

Steel Toes a film by David Gow, a friend, is an interesting piece to watch. It’s a drama following a Neo-Nazi standing trial for a hate crime, defended by a liberal Jewish lawyer. The film is based on the play Cherry Docs which was quite successful in its run all over the world.  Continue Reading →

Genius of The Simpsons

A show 20+ years in the running does not just happen. People have been making such mistakes for decades. What most people unaware of their surroundings don’t realize is that every overnight success is 10-15 years in the making. What does that mean?

Mistaken Ghost

I thought I saw you yesterday. I always hoped that if I did, that it wouldn’t matter.  Instead I found myself running backwards over glass, cutting myself on you all over again.I stopped in the curve, catching my breath as my feet got tangled in broken threads. You did that thing where you shift your balance to your back foot and stare, and my spine snaps under the weight of how you look at me.

How you… looked at me.

But it wasn’t you.

Only when I heard his voice did I know it wasn’t yours. It was a different accent, no sweet curls of inflection.

I turned and peeled off the shards.

I looked ahead.

Like I always do,

Red ribbons at my feet.

What Makes A Documentary?

I’m not the one to lie to impress. I don’t care for documentaries. I love documentarians. Occasionally I love a great documentary. I like learning. Though it all boils down to entertainment and worthiness. I don’t think a documentary about your cat is a viable documentary. How to best describe this phenomenon that we have stepped into.  Continue Reading →
